Outfit Inspiration: Summer at Work

Dressing for work everyday is often a hassle for me. I stand there in the middle of our walk-in and complain about how I have a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear. Of course it is not true.

Over the last year or so I have gained weight – I used to be a size 0 and I am now a size 2/4. I blame it to my GG’s delicious cooking LOL. Please don’t get me wrong – I am not complaining. In fact I liked the weight I put on since I look so much healthier. However, this is the reason for me not finding anything to wear. My jeans are all tight now, my skirts go up when I walk and my dresses fit like Herve Leger’s bandage dresses. So, I need to update my wardrobe, starting with my work outfits:

1. French Connection Summer Spot Jacquard Dress. It is lightweight and perfect for work worn with pumps and dressed up with stilettos and multiple gold and silver bangles for a night out.

Summer at Work IFashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

2. French Connection LA Story Trousers. These pants go well with any top. A printed bat wing top, nude open toe pumps, wood colored bracelets and patent notebook will be very chic for work. For a date night, toss on a glittered tank, multiple wood colored bracelets and heeled strappy sandals.

Chronicles of a Pinay Bride: Our Engagement Pictures

A few weeks back, GG and I had our engagement pictures taken. We were very nervous and a little shy posing in public. Yes me! Yes shy! ha ha It is so different posing in front of a timed camera for my lookbook shots. But Gwen and Matt made us feel so at ease! Actually, too at ease that we sometimes forgot we were on a photo session with them and that there are other people around us!

The Casa Marina and Jacksonville Beach are very memorable for us. It was where we went on our second date. The date that confirmed our feelings – that we were meant for each other and that we found our soul mates. So, we wanted to document that day by having our engagement pictures taken there.

Jackie Neal did my makeup. She was so nice and she made it look so natural! I didn’t feel like I was wearing any at all!

Gwen released a sneak peak of our Engagement Pictures on her blog. I am so excited to share some of my faves here and be sure to check the rest of the pictures in her blog and say hi!

Youtube Wednesdays: My Waffle Wife

GG and I will have a traditional wedding with the traditional vows. I am afraid I will forget what to say or just faint from nervousness (that may be a little too extreme). Seriously, we try to tell each other every day how much we mean to each other. So, technically, we say our vows everyday.

Here’s one example of how pressure and excitement and everything else can turn your vows to be a little comedic…

Tell me lovelies, did you write your own vows or did you go with the traditional vows?

T

Feature Wednesday: The Future of Shopping

You know how irritating it gets to be waiting in line for a long time to get into a fitting room and then when you get there you need a different size or a different color? Frustrating isn’t it?

As I have mentioned a while back, I work in the Information Technology and it is about time that Fashion and Technology collaborates. CISCO, a technology innovator, will unveil its architectural vision for Borderless Networks on October 20, 2010. You can register here to attend this virtual event.

Check out this video for what might be in store for all of you lovelies!

Now, how cool is that!? My curiosity in this new technology is at its peak! What do you think lovelies?

Have a happy Wednesday!

YouTube Wednesdays: Wedding Crasher (Literally)!

I hope this does not happen in my wedding – the guest literally “crashed the wedding”. The bride was still poised and calm at the end.

Happy Wednesday lovelies!

Chronicles of a Pinay Bride: The search for the wedding photographer…

So, we have a date, we found the reception venue (and backup ceremony venue too – to explain why we need a back-up ceremony venue requires a different post) ,   and the next most important thing in our to do list  is the photography.

We, brides, spend a lot of time preparing for the big day. Meticulously planning the details of our wedding from the seating cards to the decorations, I know I want everything to be captured perfectly so when everything is done and over, we can look  back and relive every moment of it.
We have families who reside in different countries – Australia, Canada, Europe, Asia – you name it, and those who reside in different states. Unfortunately, not all of them will make it. This is another reason why photography is critical for me. I want the moment to be captured as it happens. So that when we share the pictures with them, they too will feel like they were there.

What were our criteria for hiring our photographers?

1. Clear photographs
We’ve interviewed a few photographers and noticed that the pictures were clear in their 5×7 samples or albums, but the blow up samples of the same pictures were blurry. Our conclusion – they were shooting in low resolution format.

2. We both like the photo-journalistic style of photography. I do love to pose and I like pictures that look like they came straight out of a magazine. But, I also love the candid shots. Those shots that you would have missed had they not captured it in camera.

3. I researched and viewed tons of websites before I contacted the photographers to meet with them in person and to view more of their printed work. It was very important for GG and I to meet them in person before hiring them to see if we will “click” or feel at ease with them.  How can you smile in the camera if the photographer is obnoxious? And of course, some of the guests are shy and so it might take someone with a fun personality to get them to smile.

4. Budget is also a factor. Although photography is 3rd in our list of priorities, we also have a limit set in our budget.

5. Credentials, references. I interviewed one photographer who bragged that she is a member of the PPA and is insured as well. When we got home I checked her out and did not find her there. Why is this important for us? PPA members’ works are reviewed by other photographers before they are admitted into the association. Who can be a photographer’s worse critic? A fellow photographer.

6. Insurance. Let’s say during the day of the wedding the camera fell and got submerged into the pond. All the pictures have been destroyed. If they are not insured, your pictures are gone!
So, after seeing tons of work. We had found our photographers! Yay! Our choice:

This husband and wife destination wedding photographers are just amazing!!!! Their work are gorgeous and their personality – awesome! We met with them over coffee at Starbucks and we ended up chatting and talking for 3 hours!  It’s like we have known them forever!
Gwen and I also have too much in common – we both love photography, we both love accessories and shoes! Now, how awesome is this – she gave me  one of her lens that they have not used for a while! Who does that?! Seriously! Soooo happy and excited to try it out!

I Love Macarons

We can’t wait for Gwen and Matt to take our pictures!
Check their awesome blog here.

Chronicles of a Pinay bride: I’m engaged!… what’s next?

I commend all the brides out there and those who have gone through the entire wedding process for all their patience and diligence in making their dream events come true – hands down, bowing my head, ending with a wave – bravo! It is definitely a lot of work!!!!

Seriously, now that the reality of us being engaged sunk in – I am struggling to get things started. So much to do, to consider, to think about. I am marrying the man of my dreams and I want it to be perfect!

I bought bridal magazines, tons of them! And seriously, all it did was get me all excited but even more lost on where to start! I went to the ever reliable Martha Stewart Weddings websites and started reading their checklists. I also registered at The Knot to use their free wedding website hosting.

We have tons of work to do! I was debating on getting a wedding planner/designer but my philosophy has always been – if I want it done right then I will have to do it. I am very hands-on in everything I do. And planning my wedding is definitely on the top. I am not saying we are not having one. I will need a wedding coordinator/planner for the month of the wedding. Why? The “month of” gets to be very stressful – I need someone to deal with all the stress of following up with all the vendors and making sure everything is delivered on time.

GG has been very supportive and very patient through all this. I do the research and scheduling of where we are going and he always ends up reminding me of our appointments. He helped me update our wedding website, got me a wedding binder to compile and organize all the materials the vendors we meet are giving us, and has been doing his own research for the church ceremony.

We both wanted a small wedding to be attended only by our closest families and friends. This decision made it easy for us to decide what kind of wedding we want. We wanted an elegant but a more relaxed wedding. So after looking at a few places, we have narrowed down our choices to a beach venue, a historic venue or a French villa. BTW, did you know that you have to start booking your venue at least a year out to get the date that you want? Yes! I didn’t know that that many people are getting married!

Anyway, the beach venue was gorgeous, the sea, the sand, tons of activities and shopping around the city – but the hotel resort book 2 events at the same day and that was a turn off for us. Not to mention it will be very hot around that time and the heat and humidity just does not go well with my hair! Oh and the venue coordinator was snotty cold.

The historic venue was beautiful. The views, the history, the things to do around the city would be perfect for our destination wedding. I fell in love with the loft feel of the room, the high exposed ceilings, hard wood floors, the wrap around porch – perfect for  a reception. This was my second choice.

However, I have already pictured our wedding in the very first venue we looked at. The gardens, the pond, the villa, exposed beams, hand scraped wood floors was breathtaking. It felt right. Plus – everyone there  were so nice.

So, last Wednesday, we booked our venue….

Date – check!
Venue – check!

Still got ways to go but will definitely get there!

Have a great weekend lovelies!

My fashion philosophy has always been to go for pieces that I am comfortable with without sacrificing fashion. I am very picky about my shoes. There has only been one exception to that – the uggs. Although I am not a big fan of the style – I cannot resist how comfy and warm they are. And of course, they look so cute with skinny jeans.

Look: The Gray Suit

Probably not the most flattering shot but I do love this suit. I have worn the jacket with jeans a few times and really love the unconventional fold of the sleeves which can also be worn unrolled.

2010-03-24

What I am wearing:
jacket and pant suit: BCBG MaxAzria
purple top: Banana Republic
shoes: Jimmy Choo
skinny belt: Dillard’s
double chain necklace: Express
bracelet: White House Black Market

I normally don’t wear my suits together to break down the monotony in color. But there are suits that still look sharp and good when paired together such as this one. Gray is my other black. I can wear it with different colors – black, pink, red, blue, teal, white… and the color possibility is endless. Do you stick with black or is gray your other black too?

Happy Easter lovelies!

Review and Give Away: Skin MD Natural

“Shielding lotion is a lotion that forms a protective barrier on the skin and keeps out irritants and chemicals. It also allows the natural oils and moisture to remain in the skin so it can heal better. It is a big advantage that shielding lotions are light and go on without a greasy mess,” says Dr. Brian Zogg, a dermatologist in Albert Lea, MN. (http://www.skinmdnatural.com/shielding-lotion.html)

There are a few things I cannot live without and one of them is a very good lotion. I am picky when it comes to lotions because (1) I have sensitive skin, (2) I don’t like lotions with overpowering scents (3) I don’t like lotions that feel sticky after you apply it and (4) does not last long enough to keep my skin moisturized.

So when Skin MD Natural asked me to do a review of their product I was very curious and excited to try it because of what it has to offer.

I have been using Skin MD Naturals for a month now mostly on my elbows, knees, hands and feet. The lotion has a very mild scent and it was not sticky after application. The lotion is absorbed by the skin immediately after you apply it. It has that instant smoothing effect on my hands and my elbows. Having recently gotten engaged, everyone is asking me to send a picture of my engagement ring. So before using the lotion, I can see how wrinkly my fingers were in the pictures. This motivated me to use and follow the recommended initial application times. After a week, I took the same shots and lo and behold, the difference between the 2 shots were huge!

Skin MD Natural delivered what it promised to do. My hands, feet, knees and elbows looked much smoother and softer. Another thing I liked about Skin MD is the fact that it uses all natural ingredients which makes it even better.

Here is a chance for one of you lovelies to try Skin MD naturals. The rule is simple:
